The specialist divisions provide equipment and expertise for cost effective hire to a wide range of businesses and organisations across the Northwest of England. The teams are dedicated to delivering the highest quality service with modern high specification machines, rigorous maintenance schedules, guaranteed deliveries and fast response times.

Our services are divided in to six specialist divisions, each responsible for delivering a bespoke, higher quality service for the sectors they serve. One account with Astley Hir covers all our divisions so you will have seamless access to all the hire and training services available.

Astley Hire began when Cyril & Mildred Dorricott bought a hardware & grocery shop in Astley Green in 1963. Mildred ran the business whilst Cyril continued to work for a local firm. Cyril realised that there was a demand for the hire of water pumps in the local area and he purchased his first one in 1966 to hire out as a supplement to Mildred’s existing business.

Stephen & Michael Dorricott speak of the company’s success:

The Astley Hire depot is open from 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 12 noon on Saturdays. Any messages left out of hours will be handled with urgency the next working day. By special arrangement we are happy to work outside our normal hours.

Delivery and Collection

delivery vansMost deliveries and collections will be made by one of our fleet of vehicles and trained drivers. All our drivers are trained for safe loading and unloading, the vehicles are computer tracked and routed so we can pin down delivery windows to match your schedules.

Working at Astley Hire

Working at Astley Hire is all about teamwork. To deliver the very best service for our customers we work together and look after each other. All staff are trained internally or go on courses to make sure they have the skills and knowledge to do their job well. The company runs a health scheme, makes generous pension contributions and supports staff so the team can always deliver.

The culture of the business to one where staff are involved in decision making. This starts from the day they are first inducted and continues through a process of continuous assessment of what skills they need. Training is then tailored in order to allow them to improve.

Staff are made aware of their importance to the company by ensuring that there is a clear trace of how an individual's targets fit within the overall company targets. This could be where a new driver requires training on the safe delivery of machines to customers. This would tie in with the company's targets on Health & Safety. A lot of training takes place on the job with coaching from more experienced members of staff. Some training is supplied by outside companies, this is the case for the Modern Apprenticeship scheme which we have introduced for trainees in the service department.
